Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Have you guys read the book yet? I read it back in March of 2015 in about 3 days. I could not put it down. I was on vacation in India and had major jet-lag and this was one of the books I had downloaded to read for book club for April. Since I couldn’t sleep, I sat in the dining room in the night and read and read.

Seriously, this book was definitely one of the best books I have read in a while. A book that is hard to put down and hard to forget about. I was sooo excited when I heard that they would make it into a movie in 2016 and when they cast Emilia Clarke as Louisa and Sam Claflin as Will.

'Me_Before_You'Quick summary: Will was hit by a motorcycle two years ago and is now a quadriplegic. Louisa just lost her job at the coffee shop and is in desperate need of a job to help her parents with their living expenses so she lands the job of taking care of Will for six months. At first Will does not like Louisa but soon he warms up to her and they have a good time together. They go to a horse race, a Mozart concert, a wedding and even to Mauritius. Louisa finds out that her contract was for six months because Will, who is sick and won’t get better, wants to travel to Switzerland and end his life where assisted suicide is legal. She tries with all her might to get him to change his mind. Read the book or watch the movie to see what happens next!

I guess I was living under a rock (and not watching Game of Thrones) because up until a few days ago I had no idea that Emilia Clarke is Daenerys Targaryen! She looks totally different as a brunette than as a blonde. Also,  was it me or did Louisa remind you of Susan Pevensie (Anna Popplewell)? Emilia was an excellent choice for Louisa. I think she did an incredible job.

But damn, Sam Claflin was also very dedicated to his role. I heard he lost 40 pounds for the roll and practiced not being able to move his arms or legs for hours on end. He should definitely be recognized for his efforts. I hope I get to see him in another movie soon. It’s really a pity he’s already married.
